Maximizing Solar Value In Georgia

Net metering (the ability to send excess solar electricity back to the grid for potential credits on your electric bill) is one of the major draws for those considering going solar across the U.S. and looking to increase the return on their solar investment. However, solar customers in Georgia should be aware that the state caps the amount of solar energy eligible for net metering and has currently met its participant limit.

Fortunately, that’s hardly the only way to get the most value out of your solar panel system. Let’s discuss how new solar customers in Atlanta can still make the most of their custom solar panel system from Pink Energy.

Store Excess Solar Energy in A Backup Battery

While net metering can be an additional perk of going solar, it isn’t the only option for putting excess solar energy to good use. With a solar backup battery, you could tap stored energy produced by your solar system to power parts of your home at night or during a power outage1. There are four backup modes you can choose from to optimize your stored solar energy:

  1. Self-supply mode: You can send excess solar output from your solar panels directly to your Pink Energy battery, available to be used at your discretion. When the battery reaches 100% capacity, any additional excess solar electricity is sent back to the power grid.
  1. Clean backup mode: Rather than using your solar energy supply to regularly power your home’s appliances, you may want to store it instead for use during a grid failure. Clean backup mode sends all the solar electricity your solar panels produce directly to the Pink Energy battery in order to keep the battery at 100% capacity at all times. You can tap this solar supply to power parts of your home during a power outage.
  1. Priority backup mode: You also have the option to supplement your stored solar electricity with grid power in order to keep your Pink Energy battery supply at 100% capacity.
  1. Grid mode: Your Pink Energy battery can be filled entirely using grid power. Grid mode is useful when your backup battery is not connected to your solar panel system but is connected to the power grid.

If you live in an area that receives a large amount of sunlight or your solar panels produce more electricity than your home needs, a backup battery may be the right addition to your solar panel system. Storing unused solar power in a backup battery could help reduce your grid dependency and potentially lower your monthly electric bill2 — even without net metering, you can potentially see savings!
